Westchester County Drought Management Plan
The Westchester County Drought Management Plan, last updated in 1996, is known as Chapter
693-Water Conservation. The plan is intended to be not only a drought management plan, but also a method to promote water conservation.
Current Status: Drought Warning (see November 2002 update)
Requirements: Voluntary conservation measures
At the declaration of a drought emergency, businesses are required to prepare and implement
plans for 15% reductions. Subsequent stages require additional 5% reductions at each stage.
Restrictions on watering lawns and gardens: nursery operations
Emergency:
- lawn watering prohibited if greater than 0.1 inches of rain/24 hours; otherwise not more than 4 hours per day / odd-even 5-9 AM or 7-9 PM
- newly sodded / seeded lawns can water daily for six (6) weeks then restricted as above
- Garden watering not restricted if using watering can, drip irrigation, or hose with auto shutoff
- Nurseries must implement water conservation plan for 15% reductions: no restrictions on hours of use per day if done in accordance with a water conservation plan.
Severe Emergency:
- lawn watering prohibited if 1 0.1 inches of rain/24 hours; otherwise not more than 4 hours
per day15-9 AM or 7-9 PM TTues and Sat or Wed and Sunday
- newly sodded/seaded lawns can water daily for six (6) weeks then restricted as above. Garden watering not restricted if using watering can, drip irrigation, or hose with auto shutoff
- Nurseries must implemant water conservation plan for 20% (additional 5%) reductions; no restrictions on hours of use per day if done in accordance with a water conservation plan.
Extreme Emegency:
- No lawn watering
- Garden watering not restricted if using watering can, drip irrigation, or hose with auto shutoff
- Nurseries must implement water conservation plan far 25% (additional 5%) reductions; no restrictions on hours of use per day if done in accordance with a water conservation plan
